They've been having trouble signing their first round draft pick, Andre Smith. He's a cocky fucker who thinks his shit don't stink and he's been holding out on signing because he thinks he's worth something. This entire time I've been praying (and I don't pray) that the Bengals drop this jackass at the airport with a one way ticket and move on with their lives. If you happened to watch Hard Knocks this season, they showcased Andre in the first episode running with no shirt on and his man boobs and stomach were flopping all over. Disgusting.

Unfortunately that isn't the case. I just now got to see two headlines and the first one pissed me off because of how ignorant the Bengals are. The second one made my day. Here's what I saw.

The Bengals have signed first-round pick Andre Smith in a deal that could be as much as $42 million and the Alabama right tackle rushed onto the field in time to stretch as practice began, according to Bengals.com. More here (including a picture of his boobs and stomach flopping around, just a warning)...

This pissed me off to no end. Well, until I read this.

First-round pick Andre Smith is out indefinitely after fracturing his foot in a non-contact drill at Bengals practice Tuesday.

Smith clearly wasn't in football shape when he signed his $42M rookie deal on Sunday. He, and the Bengals, are paying for it now. Coach Marvin Lewis would only say that Smith is out for "a few weeks" and confirmed he won't need surgery, but it's another setback to Smith's first-year development. Anthony Collins will likely end up starting at right tackle all season. The rest here...

Classic. Fuck you Bengals, this is what you get.

I think the draft systems in all professional sports need to be fixed. These are the two changes I recommend:

1. If the drafted player does not want to sign with the team that drafted him, he is free to go and get a real job. He will be permanently barred from re-entering the draft, although he may reconsider signing with the team that drafted him in the future, if they are still willing to take him.

2. All drafted players get minimum wage for the appropriate league their first year. No signing bonus, no special clauses. You get the same basic, one-year contract as every other new player. If and when you prove yourself during your rookie year, you can then start negotiating a better contract for your next year.
